FAQ

Good to know

The basics

What is The Junk Drawer?

The Junk Drawer is a native iOS app that instantly transforms your static study guides and notes into a dynamic, interactive 3D digital workspace tailored entirely to your coursework, alongside a suite of custom tools built to conquer school on your own terms.

When does it launch?

The Junk Drawer arrives on the App Store on August 25, 2026. Everything on this page ships that day, and more alongside it. You can get an email the moment it is live.

What device do I need?

An iPhone or iPad running a recent version of iOS or iPadOS. It's a native Apple app, so there's no Android or web version.

What's free, and what needs tokens?

The app is free to download.

  • Free: the Grade Forecaster, and the Citation Generator whenever a source's details are available.
  • Tokens: creating a Study Space, and the Citation Generator's AI fallback for when the details are missing and AI has to find them.

Tokens come from a membership or a one-time pack.

The study tools

What's a Study Space?

A Study Space is a smart, interactive 3D environment generated from your own notes and study guides: a place to actually explore your material instead of scrolling a flat document. Building one is the AI-heavy part, so each new Study Space uses a single Study Space token.

What does the Citation Generator do?

It automatically builds and verifies academic citations for you. If a source's details are available, that's completely free. No token needed. Only when the details aren't available does AI step in to find them, and that one citation uses a single citation token.

What else is included?

Beyond Study Spaces and the Citation Generator there is the Grade Forecaster: enter your grades and see exactly where you stand and the score you need on everything left, free. More ships with the app on day one, and the suite keeps growing after that.

Tokens

How do tokens work?

One token equals one use. You have two separate balances:

  • Study Space tokens: one per new 3D Study Space you generate.
  • Citation tokens: one only when the Citation Generator needs AI to find a source's missing details (citations are free when the details are already available).

The two balances are separate, so spending one never touches the other.

Are there any free tokens?

No. Tokens come from a membership or a one-time pack. You do not need them to get real use out of the app though: the Grade Forecaster is free, everyday citations are free, and more ships alongside them that costs nothing to use. Tokens are only for the AI-heavy work.

Do unused tokens roll over?

Your monthly membership allowance refreshes at the start of each month, so it doesn't stack up over time. Tokens from one-time packs are different: those stay in your balance until you use them.

Memberships & packs

Do I need a membership to buy token packs?

Not at all. Token packs are one-time purchases you can grab whenever you want, with or without a membership, and you can buy them as many times as you like. The tokens go straight into your balance and don't expire.

What's the Beta Lab?

The Beta Lab is early access to new features before they reach everyone, and a say in how they turn out. Every membership includes it. Annual and the Lifetime Pass get in first, and Lifetime adds behind-the-scenes looks at what is coming.

Can I cancel or change my membership?

Yes. Memberships are managed through your Apple Account subscription settings, so you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel any time. Upgrades take effect right away, with a prorated refund of the time you'd already paid for. Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Why The Junk Drawer?

Why did you make it?

Every app I tried for school was packed with ads, or put simple tools behind a paywall. So I built the one I actually wanted: every school tool in one place, no ads, and the everyday features free.

Where does the name come from?

Every house has one drawer where the useful things end up. Not clutter. The tape measure, the batteries, the one charger that actually fits. That is the idea here: one app holding every tool school demands, instead of eleven that each do one.
